Fascination by the unknown...
From 22 June 2023, the special exhibition "Terribly Beautiful 2.0" will be dedicated to dark creatures, demons and hybrid beings ranging from antiquity to the 18th century. It will attempt to clarify the meaning of the myths hidden behind them, which are often thousands of years old.

What does the fearsome head of Medusa have to do with the beautiful corals that come from the depths of the sea? And where do the fantastic creatures, whose bodies are made of animal and human parts, come from, many of which have been forgotten today?
"Terribly Beautiful 2.0" revives the highly successful exhibition of the INTERMEZZO series at the KHM-Museumsverband from 2011 showing it in a new light. The terribly beautiful works of art presented in the special exhibition 2023 at Ambras Castle Innsbruck – such as paintings, sculptures, goldsmith's work, armour – come from the museum's own Ambras holdings, various collections of Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna and from selected lenders.
Devils, Medusa, Griffins and Co. will accompany you telling their diverse stories on your tour of the Ambras High Castle and invite you to marvel.
Their figures make us shudder; but at the same time we admire the beauty of their artistic dexterity and execution.

Come and visit the special exhibition from 22.06. to 31.10.2023 daily from 10.00 to 17.00 at Schloss Ambras Innsbruck!
